CHARACTER
Name: Palamedes Sextus
True Name:
Canon: The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir (from his “bubble” in the River where he has been residing since his death at the end of Gideon the Ninth)
Age: 20
History: From the Locked Tomb Wiki
Powers/Abilities: Palamedes is a necromancer with a wide variety of abilities that relate to the manipulation of thanergy (death force) and thalergy (life force). His specialty is psychometry, but he can also, with varying degrees of skill, observe and manipulate the human body on a cellular level, reanimate dead bodies and skeletons, summon ghosts, and create force fields and wards to protect himself from natural and supernatural threats. All of these skills require access to a supply of thanergy, which is produced by cell death. There will be less of it on Serena Eterna than at home (because it’s not on a magical necromancer planet), but it won’t be nonexistent (since cell death is occurring all the time). This means that Pal will still have his powers, but they will be somewhat muted.

Suppressions: While Palamedes doesn’t think strong emotions are a weakness in general, he’s rather embarrassed by the idea that he feels them specifically. Therefore, he does his best to tamp down strong emotional reactions to things, preferring to appear calm and rational. He tries particularly hard not to think about:
His love for, rejection by, and the eventual death of Dulcinea Septimus. The ailing heir to the Seventh House began corresponding with Palamedes when he was eight and she was sixteen. Pal fell in love with her before he was even old enough to quite know what love meant. At nineteen years old he proposed to her, and she rejected him. When he saw her—or thought he saw her—at Canaan House, he did his best to bury his devastation, barely even talking to her while they were there. And when he discovers that Dulcinea was murdered, his heart broke all over again. Dulcinea is a wound he doesn’t dare come near.
His incandescent anger at God. Before coming to Canaan House, Pal was a boy-genius librarian who didn’t have much time for tradition for tradition’s sake, but he wasn’t what you’d call a radical. Canaan House changed that. There he discovered that the world he knows, even the powers he possesses and holds dear, are the product of unimaginably cruel pain and suffering, all started by the man who brought about the resurrection and named himself God. Pal really isn’t ready to face his disillusionment head-on.
His death. Technically Pal has found a way to subvert death, but that doesn’t make the act of dying any less traumatizing! Naturally, he insists he’s fine. Really. Stop looking at him like that.
Greatest Fear: (Even more) terrible things happening to the people he loves, especially his cavalier and best friend/platonic life partner, Camilla Hect.
Greatest Desire: He wishes with every beat of his little nerd heart that he could run away from it all and live happily ever after with Dulcinea Septimus, the love of his life. Their cavaliers can come along, of course.
Greatest Regret: Palamedes was so broken-hearted while at Canaan House that he failed to realize that the woman he thought was Dulcinea was actually her 10,000-year-old ancestor who was planning to murder him and the rest of the house heirs. He will never quite forgive himself for that.

Just a friendly chat with a sentient AI
Getting acquainted with a(nother) sword-wielding himbo
