In Pal's experience, there is often something decidedly self-conscious about the way Marianne holds herself. Even when she's relaxed and happy, she seems keenly aware of how other people might see her. And while Pal doesn't think there's necessarily anything wrong with that, his heart does a flip when he spots her looking so unaware if her surroundings.

She's absolutely lovely like that.

Marianne doesn't even notice when he waves at her, and Pal becomes careful as he approaches, not wanting to startle her. Finally, he clears his throat and offers a crooked smile.
