[ It takes him a moment to try and figure out how to say "Cnidarian Aegir antitoxin but specifically of the me variety" in a way that would be palatable but... ]
It's for my toxins! [ Better. But also maybe worse, simultaneously, because no he's not explaining himself yet again. ]
[Pal blinks slowly. Did he miss something? While he has been spending more time than usual in the last two weeks recovering from Jenny's hurricane, he doesn't think he'd slept through that much.]
For. Your? Toxins? [hmm, now that he thinks about it, that is awfully interesting.] You have toxins?
... [ Oh! Right. He needs to stop assuming that people on the boat know who he is just because Mizuki has been snooping around on other people doesn't mean anything. He holds his hand out, expecting a handshake. ]
I guess we haven't been properly introduced!!! My bad. I am Mizuki. And I am an Aegir! They're a seafaring race of my world. Specifically, I'm a Cnidarian Aegir, which means that [ He gives a big smile for his "dramatic reveal". It's not dramatic. Or a reveal if Palamedes knows what a cnidarian is. But he can pretend for a moment, okay? ] I'm a sea jelly!!
[Pal immediately begins cycling through his knowledge of Greek, searching for the meaning of Cnidarian. Stinging nettle? No, surely that can’t be right—
And then Mizuki surprises him once again] You’re awfully bipedal for a sea jelly. [technically he’s never seen one before, but he’s quite sure they are very different from people] But I suppose I’m learning all sorts of remarkable things on this ship. That’s really very fascinating.
Well, I am an Aegir, first and foremost. We are a bipedal. Sea jelly is... a subspecies, if you will.
[ He's not going to go showing his tentacles again for proof. Palamedes has already met them, and there's no reason for him to go uncamouflaging them. ]
Mhm! There's lots of weird people. I didn't know humans existed before I came here. There's so many of you, it's very strange. Ehehe... But! Um! For the antitoxin, you have to keep it in a cool place out of the sunlight. I think Ebalon said something about the proteins getting all weird? I dunno, I'm not really good at the science-y stuff. And it's for emergencies like... if the Captain somehow gets a hold of what I have.
Oh, I see! [he has to admit, Mizuki does have a point about the ship's weirdness] I suppose one person's 'strange' is another person's 'everyday.' I've gotten my share of odd looks since arriving here, so I can sympathize.
[Now that his initial shock has worn off, Pal turns his focus entirely onto scientific matters. Once again, he holds up the vial and peers at it, nodding at the instructions, which sound sensible. He makes a note to himself to track down this Ebalon to learn more.] May I ask what sort of toxins you produce? Neurological? Hematopoietic? Necrotic?
[ Mizuki tilts his head a moment. They might be his toxins and he knows how they work, but actually trying to be scientific about it is... strange. Hard. ]
Neurological sounds... right. It's hallucinogenic. Disrupts tactile, visual, and audial perception. Also overstimulates the amygdala? [ As far as Mizuki knows, that's the diagnosis. His understanding of it is "things aren't really there, but boy howdy are they spooky." ]
[He nods along, unfazed by the gruesome harm that Mizuki can theoretically inflict. To be fair, Pal could also inflict gruesome harm if he really wanted to, so maybe for that reason he understands better.] Definitely neurological. How is the antidote made?
[ He makes some very vague hand gestures in the air. How does he say "I tortured my friend for it, but he asked me to so I thought it'd be okay. I started crying. It was a whole thing. Don't worry about it."? ]
You'll have to ask Ebalon. I'm not sure. Something about antibodies?
[Palamedes hums softly and studies Mizuki for a moment in silence. Clearly there's a larger story there, but Pal doesn't know how to crack it--and he doesn't know if he needs to, anyway. He isn't one to unnecessarily pry.
Besides, maybe he can just figure out the chemical make-up on his own.]
Interesting. Well. [he puts the vial back in the box.] Thank you very much for the gift. I'll have to thank Clarke for thinking of me as well. We can all only hope that it proves unnecessary.
Mmh. She's incredibly kind, isn't she?? So thoughtful~. [ Mizuki wouldn't know who to give what at this point, so the fact that he has someone who was so quick to give him a list of names was incredibly convenient. ]
But, yes, that's sort of where she and I were at as well. Hope for the best, expect the worst, all that jazz. I'm sorry I couldn't bring you a more fun gift. Hopefully in the future I might be able to!
[look. Pal likes Clarke. Pal is beginning to consider Clarke one of the people he trusts most on this surely-damned ship. But ‘kind’ is not the first word he would have used to describe her, on the whole.
Just saying.]
[in any case! After a beat he answers brightly] No apology necessary. I will take ‘scientifically interesting’ over ‘fun’ anytime.
I’m delighted to finally meet you properly, Mizuki.
[ Fair. True. Valid. Mizuki is just really weird about Clarke and will compliment her at any given notice, so here we are. He doesn't seem to notice his silence on the matter, or, rather, doesn't seem to pick up on the implications. ]
Good to know! I'll be sure to bring you any other science-y stuff I find, then. And if you need anything else, you're free to let me know!
Oh, and likewise!! I'm uh... ehe. Sorry that our first meeting was brief. [ And, you know. Bad. ]
[Palamedes is about to ask what in goodness name Mizuki has to apologize before, when all at once, the penny drops. The storm, and the slick deck, and this hopeful face coming through the rain. And tentacles.
Oh. Oh.] Oh!
During the storm— with the— [he waggles his fingers in a vaguely tentacle-y manner] That was you!
[He doesn't sound upset, exactly. Startled, yes. But also rather impressed.]
[ Mizuki certainly does feel some kinda way that he is now associated with, by a lot of people, wiggly fingers. It makes SENSE, but also, it's simultaneously funny and offending that it's... that. ]
Mhm. There was a lot going on. Especially with me? I'm, uh... not a fan of pirates. And that was... a lot.
[with a rather gentle smile] I think it was a lot for all of us.
[Pal clears his throat. Is the tentacles thing weird? Yep. Was being picked up by a giant, slimy arm and thrown across the water dreadful and terrifying? Sure! But Palamedes isn't mad about it, really. Which, he supposes, Mizuki might want to know.] And goodness knows, I might have slid right off the deck and into the sea if it hadn't been for you. Given I'm in no rush to discover what drowning feels like, I'm grateful.
Oh! No problem! It was still quite rude of me, though. There are much more polite ways to go about things, after all. Asking, for starters. Telling you that you shouldn't look at them because they evoke paranoia, for another. I usually try very hard to be polite, so the fact I let it fall so flat during a time of high stress is still unacceptable.
[ He gives Palamedes a little bow of his head, though. ]
Though, you are quite kind! I can see why Clarke wanted me to bring you a vial. You're a good person~.
[He gives a serious nod in return.] Well. I try to be. As do you, I think. [Because, as odd as he is, Mizuki is clearly working hard to do the right thing. You can't always say that of people--even good people.]
Thank you for this [making a gesture with the box] and give my respects to your friend Ebalon.
[ He truly, truly does try to be a good person. But every since Jenny, it's been a bit hard for him to keep his optimism. While his smile doesn't falter at it, he does knit his brows together. It's fine. He's good. Things are okay. ]
Of course! If you have any questions about it, he's probably the better person to text, but you can always talk to me, too! Even if it's just 'cause you need someone to talk to.

Less what you can do for me, more just delivering a package!
[ He procures a small box from his bag to hold it out to Pal. Inside, of course, is a vial of Mizuki's antitoxin and a syringe. ]
This is for you! Courtesy of Ebalon, who made it, and Clarke, who recommended that you should have one! It's an antidote.

...Thank you? [look, he's grateful Mizuki, but the lack of context is...confusing. Pal holds up the vial and squints at it.] What sort of antitoxin?
